My name is Caroline von Bose, and I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Economics at the University of Texas at Austin. My dissertation is entitled, “The Economics of Beautification and Beauty.”
I am interested in the economic effects of grooming and appearance – why people choose to present themselves in a certain way, the incentives surrounding physical beauty, and what this means for firms who produce goods that are designed to be conspicuously worn or displayed. This ties in with the literature on beauty as well as the literature on conspicuous consumption and status goods.
